Rami identifies himself as a gay Palestinain, Social activist and a volunteer in the LGBT community association \u201ccolors\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For him, the city of Haifa is a place that provides him with a feeling of being at home. In his opinion, Haifa is a place that gives him safety, comfort, calmness and a shoulder to lean on. However, recently even this place is no longer a safe and comfortable spot like it used to be. Moreover, it\u2019s really difficult for him to find another place that provides him with all the feelings that once existed in Haifa on the grounds that Haifa is no longer a home although he\u2019s living here for eight years now. Thus, it\u2019s impossible for him to succeed in finding another place and identify it as a home easily and quickly.<\/p>\n

Rami\u2019s feelings towards his homeland are complicated and mixed. He loves nature, food and his community, yet he hates the politics that stand behind the beauty and charm of his homeland. The same goes to the occupation, religious racism and colonialism that exists there.<\/p>\n

In Ramis view, homeland, roots, family and love exist inside his country. In his opinion this is what basically makes a country a home country however, there\u2019s pressure, fear, repression and the feeling of being imprisoned and locked not only because of his sexual identity but also because of his national identity. Accordingly, In his everyday life Rami for instance, is faced with a language (hebrew) that isn\u2019t his preferred language to speak in although he knows it well. These complications also extend to the flag of Israel and the LGBT flag which regardless of where it is attached, doesn\u2019t provide him with the sense of pride nor comfort.<\/p>\n

Despite all these complications, to live in another country for Rami is not an option because according to him, if in his homeland he didn\u2019t feel warm how could he feel like this in a country that doesn\u2019t\u00a0 have any connection with him. Furthermore, the fact that he still love and clings into his homeland and his identity proves to him everyday that his love for his homeland and his reality will overcome his hatred towards it.<\/p>\n
